Gillies Bar and Grill At The Centre Of Controversy

When we dine out we like to be made feel as though our custom is important to them. Imagine dining out at a high end restaurant and forking out over £200 for the meal only to be told that you must immediately vacant the premises as you have a visible tattoo. You would be pretty annoyed right?

Well that was the case for a Mr Dawson over the weekend when he and a group of his friends went to dine at the Gillies Bar and Grill which is part of the Galgorm Resort. Galgorm Resort has not made an apology to the group but have apologised for ‘activity’ on their facebook page as members of the group had put a post up about their ‘experience’.

The post soon had people branding the restaurants door policy as ‘outdated’ and many also voiced confusion as they had dined in the restaurant before and had seen people with visible tattoos eating without being interrupted by staff or management.

Members of the public had also expressed outrage as they believed that the restaurant had no problem taking the money from the group before chucking them out. But the restaurant has stood by their decision to ask the group to leave. They have said that they had waived the door policy to allow the group to dine but had told them that once they had finished eating they would have to leave.

The restaurant has information of their dress code up on their website, so were they within their rights to ask the group to leave? Well I think that even though the restaurant may have a strict dress code, they waived the rule for the group that came in and in asking them to leave after paying a large sum of money is the height of terrible customer service. It is also my opinion that the restaurant should either stick to the policy entirely or scrap it altogether as it is sending out a confusing message to the public.

Do you think that the restaurant acted fairly? Is it not normally the belief that customer is always right?
